Reading, Meditating on, Resting in, and Becoming a Word of God
"...But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night."
Lectio Divina ('Sacred Reading') is frequently practiced in conjunction with Centering Prayer, as we do at First Churches. In Lectio Divina, we follow a specific method for meditating in silence on a short passage of scripture or other reading. At the end of the meditation period group members are invited to share, if they wish, any insights or prayers arising for them from the passage. The basic method of this practice, as taught through Contemplative Outreach, is described here, and a brochure is also available.
